Apple Pie With New Mexico Chili

1.50 lb baking apples, peeled and sliced (a
0.75 cup water
0.75 cup granulated sugar
2.00 tablespoon margarine or butter
1.00 to 2 teaspoons groung red new mexic
1.50 teaspoon ground cinnamon
0.50 teaspoon ground nutmeg
0.25 teaspoon salt (optional)
1.00 double 9-inch pie crust
In a large pot combine apples, water, sugar, margarine, chili powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 20-25 minues or until apples are slightly tender and juice thickens. Pour into bowl and cool 5 minutes. Pour into unbaked pie crusts, cover with top crust and cut vents, or make lattice top with strips of crust. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in preheated over 375degrees F oven for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and serve.
